Classroom Projects - 'In-Process' - 3

Today I added some shadows under the bottom flower. Wet the shadow area (where you want the paint to go - leave any spaces dry). I used indigo and rose adding new gamboge at the end.

Close-up

Today I erased the tree shapes and then used white, true blue, some brown and a little indigo to shade the limbs and trunk. I used canary yellow, true blue, sienna, cream and white for the leaves. Keep light source in mind. I worked on the front lightening it as well as adding more color. I also worked on the mountain shapes. It is about 75% there.

I worked on the mane with mostly cream with some canary yellow, sienna, indigo, and dark brown. Keep the strokes in the direction of the hairs. I also worked on the neck and shoulder using sienna, cream, indigo, and dark brown.

I worked in the water using cobalt, sap, permanent brown, quin. gold, and green gold. Keep the strokes from side to side and stay loose in the water part. Then I worked on the top trees and bushes using sap, green gold, permanent brown, quin. gold, indigo. We will add only a few more layers and then move on to gouache to finish it off.

This is the second step to the flowers. Added local color (quin. rose) to the small flower paying attention to the values. Worked on the middle of the big flower (using a sienna and quin. gold)).

This is about the 4th pass with color on this painting. Using the same colors as before (sap, cobalt, quin. gold, purple mixture, green gold), added more detail to the bush areas (some negative painting behind the trees). Took the masking off the tree trunks on the left. Painted the palms on the left still using the same colors.

This is the second session on this drawing. Using the same colors (Prismacolor sienna brown, cream, indigo, dark brown, and a little true blue, no white), the muzzle, face, and cheek of the horse were completed to about 90%). Remember the values and textures!

Worked a little on the clouds. Used the clouds and sky to show what turpenoid will do to the colored pencil. Worked on the mountain using cream, true blue, sienna brown, canary yellow. Pay attention to values and remember in the end the mountain will need to 'fade' back.

Commissioned Portrait Sketches

This is the original sketch done for the client. If you know about flying planes (which I do not), you will know that I am 'crashing' the plane - oops! Also, the client did not like this particular pose of his father. So, back to the drawing board.

This is the final sketch. The client loved this one of his father and the plane will not crash and burn (which is a plus)! The plane needed to come down a little in angle and he wanted it smaller. Also, he wanted the cockpit and the clothing to be somewhat less detailed. This entire commission was done over the Internet. I sent update photos and shipped the painting when finished.
